Lisa is the life of any party, a fun, bubbly person who lives life to the fullest. She and husband Bryce live in the Sutherland Shire with their three high school age children.
Her motto is “Life is short, take holidays, throw parties, buy nice things and enjoy great food”. This is not dissimilar to DPN’s catch cry, “live the life you want.” We want our customers to live their best lives because they are financially able to. Lisa is doing just that.
Lisa is in a unique position, she’s a customer and was also an employee, working for DPN for many years. Back in 2015, she was with us part-time helping customers on their investment journey. Having previously been in the banking industry, Lisa understood finance and was keen to invest in property herself as a way to build wealth.
She has since moved on to study and pursue a new career in Early Childhood Education. Again, not hesitating to live the life she wants.
Husband Bryce owns a local windscreen repair business. We asked them a few questions, starting with why did they want to invest in property?
Using property to build wealth made a lot of sense to us and we knew that our super would not be enough to retire on.
Plus, we wanted to help our children get into the market someday. Not to buy a house for each of them, but help them get a foot in the door, so to speak, with a family guarantee loan, or to help with equity as deposit.
Lisa and Bryce met with director, Lloyd Thomas, who presented a property investment plan with a range of recommendations for properties in high growth areas that suit their budget. After giving it some thought they settled on two of the options: Fern Bay in Newcastle and Ballina in the NSW Northern Rivers region
Fern Bay was, at the time, new beachside suburb accessible to Newcastle, Port Stephen’s and the booming Hunter region. This area was on the cusp of a property boom at that time and Lisa & Bryce were grateful they got in when they did.
Ballina, in the NSW Northern Rivers area was an emerging town for investors in 2018. Its identity was changing from a laid back coastal town to exclusive region, and, with close proximity to an expanding airport, Ballina was more accessible for sea and tree-changers.
Constructing a duplex has proved a successful strategy to manufacture equity, with a healthy increase in the Ballina duplexes value after completion.
Refinance & portfolio review
In 2022 DPN were able to help Lisa & Bryce further by reviewing their portfolio, including home mortgage. With their duplex now constructed, in an area that had appreciated, they were able to realise the equity that had been manufactured by going ahead with development.
Paying off your home, what an achievement
A review of all their property finance revealed the opportunity to pay off their home loan by consolidating and restructuring their debts. They took 100K from Fern Bay and sold a unit Bryce had purchased in Sydney’s Wiley Park to pay out their 350K loan. Imagine owning your home, outright. Now that is a milestone to celebrate.
What’s next?
In an enviable financial position, we ask Lisa about their plans for the future. “We would like to retire in our late 50s or early 60s and travel, maybe in a caravan (or maybe staying in flash hotels!). We love the Bryon Bay area and would also love to visit Europe each year.” shares Lisa.
DPN helped us with a cash flow positive property, delivering results right from the start. The entire experience was seamless and we are already looking forward to our next investment.
